Abstract
Sleep plays a critical role in many important areas of child development. Approximately 30 % of children and adolescents suffer from sleep-related disturbances throughout their development. Sleep disturbances account for 20.6 % of consultations due to behavioral disturbances. Despite their importance, these disorders are not perceived as diseases, so the doctor is seldom consulted, and thus, they tend to be assumed by families and perpetuate in time. Today we know that the consequences for health can be highly severe and range from cardiovascular disorders to growth and development problems, as well as significant behavioral and school performance alterations.
