Abstract
nuestra sociedad.
This study tackles maternity through the lens of a series of fiction films and series where said concept’s most fundamental aspects are analyzed. The place ourselves in the beginning of the XXIst Century, in democratic societies, more or less liberal and with Judeo-Christian roots, where rapid changes are promoting debates which are shaking the foundations of traditional social and family structures. In such a context, where the avenues through which traditional maternity has been expressed and exercised are changing, we ask ourselves whether we are dealing with unmovable phenomena, intrinsically linked to feminine identity; or whether on the contrary, we are dealing with changing realities, which can and must mutate their essence to adapt to the changing cultural and social environment. In order to examine what these productions tell us about these issues, we have chosen a series of movies filmed since 1999, which we consider essential to shed some light on these issues. These productions offer us different stereotypes of women who face maternity through different situations and perspectives, in changing and often complicated environments, which lead us to reflect on the foundations over which our societies are structured.
