Río +20: recomendaciones a la educación

Abstract

En este artículo se analizan los pronunciamientos en materia educativa de la cumbre Río +20, segunda gran Cumbre Mundial sobre Desarrollo Sostenible, diez años después de la primera celebrada en Johannesburgo (2002), y se comparan con los de su predecesora Río 92, primera gran Cumbre de la Tierra. El propósito es identificar los eventuales cambios de modelo y los principales focos de atención en las recomendaciones que cada una de ellas lanza a la comunidad internacional en materia de educación. Complementariamente, el análisis se verá completado con las aportaciones de tres textos significativos entre los promovidos por la Unesco para difundir el modelo de la educación para el desarrollo sostenible, publicados en tres fechas destacadas: en 1997, con motivo de la Conferencia Internacional de Tesalónica, Medio Ambiente y Sociedad: Educación y Sensibilización para la Sostenibilidad; en el 2005, para la implementación de la Década de Naciones Unidas por la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible (2005- 2014), y en el 2012, coincidiendo con la Cumbre Río +20.

In this paper, the results in terms of educational advancements from the Rio +20 Summit are analyzed and compared to those of its predecessor Río 92, the first great Earth Summit. The Rio +20 Summit was the second great Earth Summit on Sustainable Development, and has taken place ten years after the first one which took place in Johannesburg (2002). The objective of this paper is to identify the changes in the model and the main focus in the recommendations that each of the summits provides to the international community in the field of education. Additionally, the analysis is enhanced with the contribution of three significant documents, which are among those supported by the Unesco for the spread of the model of education for sustainable development. These documents where published in three significant dates: 1997, in the International Conference of Thessaloniki on Environment and Society: Education and Public Awareness for Sustainability; 2005, during the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014); and 2012, during the Rio +20 Summit.
