Este artículo analiza un pasaje de la obra de Geoffrey de Monmouth, Historia
Regum Britanniae, en que el autor galés narra la conquista de Roma por los
príncipes britanos Breno y Belino. Geoffrey usó a su manera las fuentes romanas,
básicamente a Tito Livio y Estacio, mezclándolas con otros elementos
procedentes de la literatura galesa medieval, a fin de ensalzar el heroísmo
de los britanos sobre los romanos.
This paper analyzes a passage of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s work, in which
the author refers the conquest of Rome by the British princes Belinus and
Brennius. Geoffrey used his Latin sources, basically Livy and Statius, freely
by combining them with other elements from the medieval Welsh literature
in order to extol the heroism of the Britons over the Romans.
