Abstract

La forma en la que los filósofos y teólogos contemporáneos desarrollan habitualmente sus investigaciones revela que se ha vuelto común entre ellos, sean o no cristianos, una comprensión de las relaciones entre filosofía y teología que hace, de hecho, que ambas disciplinas sean imposibles. Filosofía y teología han quedado subordinadas a criterios ideológicos que les son extrínsecos y que reducen sus horizontes hasta asfixiarlas. En el presente trabajo deseamos mostrar en qué consiste esta errónea comprensión, cómo se ha gestado a lo largo del Medioevo y de la Modernidad y cuál es la verdadera relación que han de mantener si quieren responder a la vocación, deseo y objeto que las constituye y dota de sentido.

Contemporary philosophers and theologians usually develop their research based on a certain understanding of the relationship between philosophy and theology. I argue that the most common ideas among these scholars - Christians or not - actually make both disciplines impossible. Both, theology and philosophy have been subordinated to external and ideological criteria. This unfortunate consideration reduces their horizons to the point of blinding them. In this paper I analyze both systematically and in its historical aspects the most common misconception of the allegedly necessary tension between Revelation and reason. Such a philosophical endeavor certainly aims at restoring the true relationship between philosophy and theology. For only if the main principles of this relationship are sufficiently clarified can these disciplines fully respond to their vocation, i.e. can they truly manifest the desire towards their proper object and the origin of their very meaning: God.
