Nowadays, in youth football categories and in the primary school context, the birth month of the athlete or student is usually associated with performance. This phenomenon is known as relative age effect (RAE), and it’s related to positive performance because of the maturation advantage in those children who were born in the first months of the year in detriment of those who were born in the last months of the year (Towlson et al., 2017).
