L’assistència sanitària a la ciutat de valència durant la Guerra Civil espanyola (1936-1939).

Abstract

La situació de rereguarda de València durant la Guerra Civil espanyola (1936- 1939), la proximitat del front de Terol i el curs desfavorable de la guerra per al bàndol republicà van convertir la ciutat en una destinació preferent per a ferits de guerra i població civil evacuada. Davant d’este marcat increment de la demanda assistencial, les autoritats sanitàries valencianes van escometre una profunda reorganització de la xarxa hospitalària de la ciutat. L’objectiu d’este article és analitzar la readaptació del sistema sanitari de la ciutat de València com a resposta a la Guerra Civil espanyola, que va consistir en l’habilitació de nombrosos hospitals per a ferits i malalts de guerra, i en la creació de quatre nous hospitals especialitzats. Esta intensa reorganització sanitària va ser, no obstant això, incapaç d’absorbir la demanda d’assistència sanitària provocada pel notable augment poblacional.

During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) València became a main destination for war wounded and evacuated civilians due to its rearguard situation, to the proximity of Teruel war front and to unfavorable course of the war for the Republicans. Valencian health authorities undertook a deep reorganization of the hospital network in the city to face with this marked increase in demand for care. The aim of this paper is to analyze the rehabilitation of the health system in the city of Valencia in response to the Spanish Civil War, which consisted of enabling numerous hospitals for injured and sick of war, and the creation of four new specialized hospitals. Nevertheless, this health reorganization care was unable to absorb the demand for health care caused by the significant population increase.
